Traffic Stop in North Naples Leads to Cocaine Trafficking Arrest, Firearm Seized

A routine traffic stop in North Naples turned into a major drug bust this week—underscoring how everyday vigilance by deputies helps keep Collier County safe.
Around 6 p.m. Wednesday, a Collier County Sheriff’s deputy pulled over a gray Ford F-150 at the intersection of Tarpon Bay Boulevard and Spanish Oaks Lane after the driver blew through a stop sign and wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.
That driver—31-year-old Shawn Davide Beres of Bonita Springs—is now facing serious charges.
As the deputy approached the truck, the smell of marijuana was immediately noticeable. Beres does not have a medical marijuana card, giving the deputy cause for a deeper look. What followed was anything but routine.
A probable cause search of the vehicle uncovered:
145.5 grams of cocaine (well above the trafficking threshold)
THC wax and marijuana
Narcotics paraphernalia
A loaded firearm, improperly secured
Sheriff Kevin Rambosk praised the work thanking deputy from stopping the drugs from entering in the community and keeping our county safe.
Beres was booked into Collier County Jail on multiple charges, including trafficking cocaine and unlawful carry of a concealed firearm.
Why It Matters
Collier County has long made headlines for proactive policing—and this case highlights how traffic stops often lead to larger criminal discoveries. A single stop sign violation prevented more than 145 grams of cocaine from circulating locally.
For residents, it’s a reminder of two things:
Routine patrols are often the first line of defense against major crimes.
Drug and gun violations in neighboring Lee County can—and do—spill into Collier, making vigilance on our roadways essential.
