Prohibition of marijuana dispensaries is being considered in Collier County

Prohibition of marijuana dispensaries is being considered in Collier County.

On Tuesday, the Collier County Commissioners will deliberate whether or not to prohibit medical marijuana dispensaries, according to a recent article by Alexandra Rangel from Fox 5.

The Collier County Commission is going to discuss the possibility of passing an ordinance prohibiting the construction or placement of medical marijuana dispensing facilities in unincorporated Collier County.

A meeting on January 24 was the setting for this talk. The commission could have zoned dispensaries like pharmacies, but instead they just banned them.

I think we should put an end to this debate by not allowing dispensaries to sell medical marijuana. Burt L. Saunders, commissioner for District 3, stated that the legislation could be overturned at a later date.

Additionally, Chairman Rick LoCastro stated that visitors who required medical marijuana could easily drive to Marco Island to obtain it.

Most of the people he knows who use it have it delivered to their homes, but “people who are benefiting from it can drive to Marco Island,” he said.
