National Survey ranks Florida 50th in teacher salary

According to a recent analysis, Florida has the second-lowest teacher compensation in the nation.

The National Education Association’s 2024 report ranked Florida 50th out of 50 states and Washington, D.C. in terms of average teacher pay, according to a recent article by Kim Luciani of Naples Daily News.

NEA reports that pre-K through college teachers in Florida earn an average salary of $53,098 as opposed to $69,544 nationally.

Based on the research, teacher compensation has not increased in line with inflation over the last ten years. The average salary for a public school teacher increased 4.1% in 2022–2023, although over the previous ten years, pay adjusted for inflation decreased by 5%.

The National Education Association has ranked the salaries of Florida’s K–12 educators, college faculty, and support personnel as follows:

  • Average teacher starting salary: 16 ($47,178)

  • Average teacher salary: 50 ($53,098)

  • Average K-12 support staff pay: 27 ($32,127)

  • Average higher education faculty salary: 15 ($102,927

  • Average higher education support staff pay: 38 ($41,778)
