Naples Water Department Initiates Annual Disinfection Process

The City of Naples Water Department has commenced its yearly water system maintenance by temporarily altering its disinfection method. From May 27 through June 30, 2025, the city will utilize free chlorine instead of the usual chloramine (a combination of chlorine and ammonia) to disinfect the potable water supply.

This routine procedure, recommended by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, aims to cleanse the water distribution system and maintain high water quality standards. While the water remains safe for consumption, residents might notice a slight change in taste, odor, or color during this period

The Water Department advises that these temporary changes are normal and not harmful. Customers with specific concerns, such as those using dialysis machines or maintaining aquariums, should consult relevant professionals to ensure appropriate precautions are taken. For more information or questions regarding this temporary change, residents can contact the Naples Water Department directly.(Naples Government)
