Naples inches closer to a rebuilt pier as demolition permits get approval

Demolition Permits in Hand
The Naples Pier — battered by Hurricane Ian — is one step closer to being removed. The city has obtained demolition permits and is now waiting on funding clearance from FEMA. Once FEMA obligates the funds, demolition can begin.
What’s Left of the Pier
Since the storm, much of the pier’s boardwalk and structure remains collapsed or fenced off. Once iconic and packed with tourists, the pier’s absence has left a visible void — both for residents and visitors.
Why It Matters to Naples
For many longtime Naples residents, the pier wasn’t just infrastructure — it was a symbol of the city’s identity and history. Rebuilding the pier could bring back a major draw for tourism and help revitalize the local beachfront economy.
What’s Holding Things Up
City officials need a formal sign-off from FEMA before demolition starts.
Once funds are cleared, demolition will proceed — but construction of a replacement pier won’t begin until after that. The city says the rebuild will happen ASAP
Meanwhile, residents remain hopeful — but are also bracing for delays.
