Naples Church Staff Thwart Mass-Shooting Threat: 23-Year-Old Arrested
Naples church staff swiftly intercepted a potential mass shooter Sunday at Manantial de Vida Church on Golden Gate Parkway, leading to the arrest of 23-year-old Angel Antonio Arreguin of Naples.
🚨 What Happened
Around 12:30 p.m. on July 6, a church employee spotted Arreguin pacing in the lobby during a service. He claimed he was a “trained killer,” asked how much it would cost to halt a mass shooting, and was visibly armed.
Staff calmly engaged the suspect while one discreetly called 911 and another ushered children out of the building.
Deputies quickly arrived and disarmed him, recovering a loaded handgun with a round in the chamber plus 60 rounds of 9 mm ammo in three magazines.
🔒 Charges & Custody
Arreguin was arrested and faces:
Two felony counts of threatening to discharge a destructive device
One misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct
He’s also been placed under the Baker Act for mental-health evaluation, and barred from the church.
🙏 Community Reaction
Most congregants were exiting or unaware when the threat unfolded; the service ended early, and attendees left through side exits, minimizing panic.
Deputies said Arreguin appeared to be in a mental-health crisis, guiding their response toward de-escalation and professional evaluation
