Florida high schooler claims she was sent away from prom for wearing a suit.

A Florida high school student was denied access to her prom after the vice principal allegedly told her she was not dressed appropriately for a female.
Sophie Savidge attended her junior prom at Mason Classical Academy in Naples wearing a suit with a green tie, vest, and matching green sparkling nails. When she arrived at the door, she was denied access, according to a recent article by Alex Herrera of Tampa 10.
Her mother, Holly Savidge, stated that her daughter was denied admittance because she was not wearing a skirt. However, Holly informed WBBH that Sophie had previously been permitted to attend other school dances while dressed in a suit.
“She told her that she was not dressed appropriately for a female. And she was unable to enter. When we purchased the $85 for her prom ticket, we were acknowledging that, yeah, we knew the clothing rule,” Holly explained.
Girls can only wear evening gowns or cocktail dresses to formal events, according to WINK-TV.
According to a statement made by the charter school, all students and parents are aware of the school’s clear dress code standards.
“Any student who arrives at an MCA dance and does not follow the dress code is offered the opportunity to return to the dance in appropriate apparel. All students are treated equally at MCA, and they are welcome and encouraged to participate in these voluntary events,” the statement added.
Instead of attending prom, the mother and daughter went out for ice cream. Holly informed WBBH that Sophie’s father died last month, which made the event much more difficult.
Holly statedthat for her senior year, she is considering dual enrollment or virtual school.
