Drivers Frustrated as Pebblebrooke Intersection Light Stays Dark

Green. Camera. Lights.

Morning and evening drivers along Collier Boulevard near the Pebblebrooke Center are facing daily congestion and safety concerns as a long-awaited traffic signal remains inactive. The light, installed months ago at the entrance to the busy retail and residential area, has yet to be switched on, leaving motorists to navigate the intersection with only stop signs and caution.

Residents say the delay has created bottlenecks and dangerous merges, particularly during school drop-off and afternoon rush hours. The intersection funnels traffic from multiple neighborhoods, a shopping center, and several schools onto Collier Boulevard, one of North Naples’ most heavily traveled corridors.

County transportation officials have explained that the signal’s activation requires final approval from the Florida Department of Transportation, including testing and synchronization with other lights along the corridor. That review has taken longer than expected, frustrating drivers who believed the signal would be operational by late summer.

Until the light is activated, Collier County has stationed temporary signage and law-enforcement patrols to improve traffic flow, but residents argue it is not enough to prevent near-miss collisions. They are pressing for clearer timelines and quicker coordination between county and state agencies to reduce risks before the winter tourism season adds even more cars to local roads.

The county commission has acknowledged the complaints and is urging state transportation officials to complete the final checks as soon as possible. For now, drivers are advised to allow extra time during peak hours and to remain alert at the intersection until the light is finally turned on.
