Collier County School Board votes 3-2 to increase taxes in order to pay the $1.6 billion budget.

The Collier County School Board voted 3-2 on Monday to adopt a nearly $1.6 billion budget for 2023–2024.
This is a budget increase of almost $120 million over the $1.4 billion allocated for the fiscal year 2022–2023.
The board approved a tax rate of 4.292 mills, or dollars per $1,000 of assessed property value. This tax rate is 10.66% more than the rolled-back rate, which would have generated the same amount of revenue as the fiscal year 2022–2023. This indicates that district taxes were raised this year.
Tim Moshier and Jerry Rutherford, two board members, opposed the tax rate and budget.
The following is where the budget’s funds will go:
General Fund: $777,368,353
Debt Service: $38,769,282
Capital Projects: $483,992,643
Special Revenues: $110,454,097
Nutrition Services: $41,387,776
Internal Services: $116,544,986
