Collier County Greenlights Rezoning for Future Affordable Housing Development

A new affordable housing community is on the horizon for Collier County. County Commissioners have approved a rezoning request to allow for the development of either 186 condominiums or up to 400 apartment units along Tamiami Trail East, directly across from the gated Esplanade by the Island community.
While some residents raised concerns about potential traffic increases during public meetings held by the Collier County Planning Commission in February, others in the area support the initiative, according to a recent article by Dominga Murray of FOX 4.
“With how expensive it is to live in Naples, I think the new housing will help,” said local resident Grace Still. “Homes are really pricey, so this could be a good thing.”
The project may also include a hotel and commercial space, though those elements are still under consideration and not yet finalized.
As it stands, the median household income in Naples is $104,000 per year. About 30% of the units in the proposed development will be set aside for individuals earning below that threshold.
