Collier County Debuts Autism Collier Charter School: A Tailored, Tuition-Free Learning Hub

The Autism Collier Charter School (ACCS) opens its doors in Naples this August 2025, offering Collier families a long-awaited K–12, tuition-free option designed specifically for children on the autism spectrum.
What sets ACCS apart:
Ultra-low ratios. Classrooms will serve approximately 9 students with 1 teacher and 2 aides, delivering a focused 3:1 student-teacher dynamic.
Sensory-first design. From lighting and flooring to furniture and soundproofing, every element—yes, even the drywall thickness—has been thoughtfully chosen to support sensory-sensitive learners.
Full-spectrum support. Beyond academics, ACCS offers ABA-infused curriculum, related arts (like music and theater), therapy services (speech, OT, assistive tech), extracurriculars, and extended-day care including clubs and summer camp.
A furry ambassador. Meet Miss Honey, the school’s facility dog, poised to offer calm support and emotional connection.
Community-driven origin story. The school was born from Stephanie Nordin’s personal journey—after a traumatic accident involving one of her autistic twins in 2022, she championed the launch of ACCS. Together with Jen Mitchell (board chair) and Emily Kafle (principal, a seasoned special ed leader), they built a vision with purpose.
Credibility matters. Collier County Public Schools and local officials have embraced ACCS. Superintendent Leslie Ricciardelli underscores the importance of expanding options tailored for significant autism—inviting families from anywhere in Florida.
Getting started—and growing out. The inaugural class will include around 65 students, selected via lottery. Growth is planned in stages, rising to 130 students in Year 2, then doubling again to reach around 300. Early demand is strong: over 215 applications are already in.
Named a “first-of-its-kind” campus designed around autistic learners, ACCS is more than a school—it’s a lifeline for families needing spectrum-specific support in Southwest Florida.
