Arrest Made in Golden Gate Murder Case Following Late-Night Robbery
A major break has come in a Golden Gate homicide investigation. Collier County deputies have arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting death of a 54-year-old man during an attempted robbery.
The homicide dates back to the early morning hours of August 17, when authorities say Juan Coc Xo and a friend were walking home along 41st Terrace Southwest in the Golden Gate area. Around 2:00 a.m., reports indicate a vehicle pulled up alongside the men. The driver allegedly demanded valuables, but when Xo refused, the suspect opened fire. Investigators say Xo was struck and collapsed near a white SUV parked in front of a home. Deputies administered CPR but the victim succumbed to his injuries.
After weeks of investigation, law enforcement zeroed in on Anthony Michael Felix, age 22, as a person of interest. Felix was located on September 21 during a traffic stop at the intersection of Vanderbilt Road and U.S. 41. He was riding as a passenger in a vehicle when deputies identified and apprehended him.
He now faces a second-degree murder charge in connection with Xo’s death.
Law enforcement officials say the arrest reflects the persistence of detectives who combed through evidence, canvassed the area, and followed leads until an arrest could be made.
The case has reignited concerns in Golden Gate about public safety, late-night crime, and the challenges of thwarting violent acts in residential zones. For the victim’s family, the arrest offers a path toward legal accountability, though it cannot erase the tragedy of loss.
As the case moves into the legal arena, key questions now will include whether prosecutors will seek enhanced charges or a plea deal, what evidence will be introduced (surveillance footage, ballistic matches, witness testimony), and how the defense will respond.
Residents in Golden Gate and surrounding areas will no doubt be watching closely—hoping this arrest signals a shift toward greater safety and swifter justice.
