Architect drawings of the new Naples Pier design reveal modifications
Hurricane Ian in September of last year was the sixth storm to demolish Naples Pier in its history. Since then, city officials have been redesigning the famous seaside landmark so that residents and guests can once again enjoy it.
City officials and a design firm are currently finishing the 100% design plans, which will cover every aspect of the new pier’s structure, materials, and features, according to a recent article by Kendall Little of Naples Daily News.
The $20 million Naples Pier will not seem exactly as it did on September 28, 2022, the day before Ian arrived in Southwest Florida. Designers have modified a few of the pier’s structural components to make sure that it is strong enough to withstand another storm.
New design for Naples Pier: Things to know What’s new with the Naples Pier design is as follows:
Moving concessionsOffshore concession stands were located along the Naples Pier prior to Hurricane Ian. The Federal Emergency Management Agency stated that maintaining the control over the water may provide a problem for insurance companies, despite the original plans of the local officials and designers.
Shaded areas and benchesThere are more shaded sections along the pier in the revised design. The two central buildings, which were formerly concession booths, will be covered spaces where residents and guests may get away from the intense sun of Southwest Florida.
Additionally, 16 bump-out benches have been created by designers so that people can enjoy the breathtaking views of the gulf.
Taller and sturdierThis time, Naples Pier will stand three feet taller and have a larger, higher end structure for view-seekers and fisherman.
The new pier design uses concrete beams to link the pilings instead of the outdated wood beams. To withstand waves, the pilings will also be bigger and deeper.
Improving accessibilityNaples Pier will be more ADA-compliant over the whole building.
People will be able to stop more frequently when strolling down the pier thanks to the inclusion of 16 benches.
The beach access stairs will be repositioned near the facilities and expanded to double their previous width.
TimetableBecause they need to hire a construction company and put the design up to bid, city officials say it’s difficult to predict when construction will start.
City authorities claim they will have a better idea after construction companies are invited to submit bids. Their best estimate as of right now is late 2025.
