5 of the 25 Fastest Growing U.S. Metros are in Florida.

Boomtowns are simply those American cities and metro areas that draw more people than any other region in the nation, including new businesses and people moving there in search of better jobs, according to a recent article by Kerry Smith of Florida Realtors. Boomtowns frequently have housing and service infrastructure that is rapidly increasing to support a growing population.

A background-check company called Checkr examined a variety of data, including some from the Bureau of Economic Analysis and the U.S. Census Bureau, to identify the current boomtowns. Considered variables:

  • Population growth

  • GDP growth

  • Unemployment rate

  • Workforce growth

  • Poverty rate

  • Housing unit growth

  • Real personal income growth

  • Change in median age

  • Change in the total number of businesses

  • Percentage of high-earning residents (making more than $100,000)

After it was finished, it produced a list of the top 25 and top 100 boomtowns in the United States, and of those 25, five are in Florida.

17 of the top 100 cities are in Florida, with Pensacola-Ferry Pass-Brent, the lowest-ranked Florida city, at No. 69.

None of the top 25 “not-so-much boomtowns,” according to Checkr, are in Florida.
