On Wednesday night, two men from Naples were arrested on drug trafficking charges.

According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, deputies stopped Juan Alberto Rodriguez, 37, near River Way and River Reach Drive at 10 p.m. for a traffic violation.

Deputies performed a probable cause search because Rodriguez was making furtive movements, leading them to believe he was retrieving or discarding a weapon, and a gun was visible, according to a recent article by Summerleigh Stones of NBC2.

The CCSO claims Rodriguez had 28.4 grams of fentanyl in his car, enough to kill 14,200 people.

The CCSO also discovered 135 grams of methamphetamine, as well as other illicit narcotics and drug accessories, in the car.

A ledger with drug sales information and a loaded handgun magazine were discovered inside.

Rodriguez has been charged with five felonies, including fentanyl trafficking of 4 grams or more, methamphetamine trafficking of 14 grams or more, and possession/concealment of a weapon during a felony.

The sheriff’s office said his passenger, Daniel Jay Cruz, 38, is also facing many charges, including felony probation violation.

Cruz is on state probation for armed robbery. Deputies say he broke his court-ordered curfew by leaving after 10 p.m.
