Teen Charged in Fatal Shooting of 15-Year-Old in Collier County
A 13-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with manslaughter following the death of a 15-year-old in Collier County. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday at an apartment complex on Whistler's Cove Circle.
Deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a gunshot in the pool area of the complex. Upon arrival, they found 15-year-old Christian Chavez with a gunshot wound to the head, slumped over in a lounge chair. A firearm was discovered next to him.
Later that day, authorities received another 911 call and located the 13-year-old suspect, Irving Adrian Jimenez Lopez, along with a friend. One of them was in possession of a purple handgun loaded with two rounds. Both individuals spoke with detectives, though the details of their statements have not been disclosed.
According to the police report, Jimenez's actions demonstrated a reckless disregard for human life, leading to Chavez's death. While the shooting is believed to have been accidental, Jimenez has been charged with manslaughter.(FOX 4 News Fort Myers WFTX)
